Don’t Be Like the Frog: Why Deciding Isn’t the Same as Doing
The Frog That Decided to Jump — But Didn’t
I heard a story once that hit me
harder than I expected.
There are three frogs sitting
on a leaf. One of them decides to jump into the water. How many frogs are left
on the leaf?
The answer? Three.
Why? Because the frog only decided to jump. It never actually
did.
That simple little story stuck
with me, not because it was clever, but because I saw myself in that frog. And
if you're honest, maybe you do too.
The Trap of "Deciding" Without Acting
How many times have we made a
decision in our heads?
- “I’m going to start working out.”
- “I’ll finally quit that soul-sucking job.”
- “I’m going to start my own business.”
- “I should call and apologize.”
- “I’ll write that book... someday.”
We think it. We decide it.
We even imagine what life would be like afterward. But we don't do it.
And so nothing changes.
Why We Wait And What It Costs Us
We often wait because we’re
afraid of failure, rejection, judgment, or even success. We tell ourselves
comforting lies:
- “I’ll do it once I’m more experienced.”
- “I need the right tools.”
- “It’s not the right time.”
But life rarely hands us the
perfect moment. It rewards the one who moves anyway.
The Real Mistake: Not Acting on the Right
Decision
Most of the big regrets in life
don’t come from making the wrong decision. They come from not making
the right one when we had the chance.
I’ve come to believe that taking
a risk is often safer than standing still because action brings
clarity, while inaction only feeds self-doubt.
The Risk Is Real But So Is the Reward
Yes, every decision carries a
risk. But so does doing nothing.
Risk is the price of growth, of
freedom, of transformation. And guess what? You’ll never feel 100% ready. No
one does.

A Personal Note to You
If you're standing on that
figurative leaf today, thinking about a leap of your own, let this post be your
nudge.
Don’t just decide to
change your life. Do it.
Jump.
- Even if it’s messy.
- Even if it’s scary.
- Even if you fail the first time.
Because the only thing worse
than failure is being stuck on the same leaf, watching the world go by, wishing
you had jumped when you had the chance.
We must live with the
consequences of our decisions. But we must also live with the consequences
of not deciding at all.
What leap are you putting
off?
